Indoor sand and water table

An indoor sand and water table allows your child to enjoy an enormous amount of fun, as they can explore and play with sand and water all year round, regardless of the weather.

Usually made from plastic, indoor sand and water tables have two compartments – one for sand and the other for water. This means you don’t have to choose between sand and water play as you can indulge in both at the same time, for double the fun!

The smaller size of indoor sand and water tables allows you to bring what is normally an outdoor activity indoors, without taking up too much space. Furthermore, as they are lightweight and easily portable, they can be moved outside (weather permitting) so can also be used as an outdoor sand and water table.

An indoor sand and water table will provide hours of fun and entertainment for your child. If you’re uncertain whether they would meet your needs, here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of indoor sand and water tables.

Advantages of an indoor sand and water tableindoor sand and water table

  • Many have a plug for easy water drainage when your child is finished playing.
  • Can be used indoors or outdoors
  • Easy to clean and disinfect
  • The sand can simply be left to dry when mixed with the water which, of course, is part of the fun of combined water and sand play!
  • Can be used throughout the year, regardless of the weather

Disadvantages of an indoor sand and water table

  • You may need to use a waterproof mat or place it on a tiled floor to prevent damage to your carpet/flooring.
  • Your child will probably outgrow a sand and water table sooner than one of the larger options, and they are generally more suited for use as a play and developmental toy for toddlers, or under fives.
  • The compartments are smaller and don’t hold as much as individual sand tables or water tables (although this could be a good thing when you’re using it indoors!)
  • As the indoor sand and water table is smaller, they are more suitable for toddlers and younger children.
